“¡Muchachos no pisen las lápidas! ¡Les van a salir los muertos!” Siempre nos gritaba mamá a mis hermanos y a mí cuando corríamos en el cementerio. Los rituales de la familia en El Día de los Muertos, no se pueden dejar de hacer ¡Eso sería un sacrilegio! Nos advertía mamá. Seríamos castigados con años de mala suerte como le pasó al tío Jacinto, después de eso nadie más ofendió a los muertos. Llevarle bizcochos al tío Bernabé; rosas rojas a la abuela Antonia; jugar una partida de ajedrez en la tumba del abuelo Antonio; recitarle dos poemas de Andrés Eloy Blanco a el tío Jacinto (La Renuncia y A Florinda en Invierno) Su último de deseo fue que le recitaran esos dos poemas. El pobre murió por una pena de amor, ese fue su castigo por no ir al cementerio, El Día de los Muertos.

Y por último hay que llevarle un gallo nuevo al tío Pedro (El Capitán) y rendirle los honores de un héroe, en tiempos de la dictadura él con otros soldados en un tanque de guerra derrocaron al tirano ¡Vaya que destreza del soldado! Además de ser un héroe era amante de los gallos. Cuenta la leyenda que lo sepultaron con su mejor gallo de pelea, así que todos en el pueblo le piden milagros a él por ser el único famoso en el pueblo y al gallo por haber sido su tesoro más amado.
